This session is a discussion of what mapping support looks like post MappingEDU?

These broad session notes attempt to capture the spirit of the discussion and should not be interpreted as a transcript. Although Ed-Fi Alliance staff were involved in capturing these observations, the notes below should not be construed as official, complete, or 100% accurate.

Jon Hickam, of Red Globe, shared his deep experience with MappingEDU and its benefit to Ed-Fi implementations, particularly where data mapping is needed ahead of data integration.  Jon discussed use cases and benefits of the MappingEDU, such as the built-in data model and ability to collaborate with others around data mappings.  The Ed-Fi Alliance announced end of life and hosting of the MappingEDU tool, which has left a gap and desire to continue to use a service like MappingEDU.  We discussed pros and cons of mapping in Excel, self-hosting MappingEDU and using commercial tools for data mapping, all of which contain complexity to use for mapping purposes.  The session collaborated around other approaches and the idea of an interactive Google Sheet tool emerged.  Potentially, Google Sheets could be developed and utilized like Excel is used today, however utilizing the collaboration and automation functions built into Google Sheets for sharing and data validation.
