The Ed-Fi “Classic Dashboards” are no longer supported through the Ed-Fi Alliance. You can still receive support and maintenance through the Ed-Fi vendor community. Please look at any of the vendors’ dashboard solutions on the Registry of Ed-Fi Badges or the Ed-Fi Starter Kits if you are looking for a visualization solution to use with the Ed-Fi ODS. This documentation will remain available to assist existing Classic Dashboard implementers.

The Ed-Fi ETL Application and Ed-Fi Dashboards together have many configuration options that allow application behavior changes without custom coding This article contains an overall summary of configuration options along with pointers to detailed documentation. 

ETL Application Runtime Configuration

The Ed-Fi Dashboards v3.0 have a number of built-in configuration and extensibility options that allow you to customize application behavior without coding. See the ETL Developers' Guide - Application Configuration section for complete details.

ETL Metric Metadata Configuration

The ETL application uses metadata to drive the structure and organization of the metrics, and metadata plays a significant role in the processing done by the ETL application Translators. The as-shipped Ed-Fi Dashboards contain metadata that represents a "typical" organization, but most implementers find it useful to customize the metrics for their own environment. See the ETL Developers' Guide - Dashboard Metric Configuration section and the article Managing Metrics Using the Metric Configuration Tool for details.

Grading Scale Metric Customization

The metric settings page in the Dashboard UI can be used by district staff to customize grading scales for their dashboard implementation. Grading scales can be customized for each grade level or set of grade levels. See the Customizing the Grading Scale Metrics technical article for complete details.

A set of sample grading scale configuration is provided for available core dashboard metrics, it is important to note that grade related metrics rely on grading scales to be configured before they can be executed.

Assessment Configuration

In v3.0 of the Ed-Fi Dashboards, metrics related to Assessments can be configured without custom development. The customization options available fall into three general assessment metric types, each with a distinct configuration method.
